@PMniac:
I saw your nice times in this game, congratulations. You probably found glitches that some members didn't used yet.
Now that you're in front of the Top Medals for this game, can you just send a picture or a video, where we can see next to your screen, your original system Sega Genesis (or Classic), with your written name just around, in order to check this, please ?
You are not obliged to make a great record for this proof, or link it to a score.
Because, well, your pictures unfortunately don't show details that you played with this system, it's a little shame and embarassing for you and us.

Hello Zephyraz.
1st of all I wan to say thanks!

About glitches yes, I've been using some that are very well known by the speedrun community, some are easy to do, others are a little harder.

Here's an updated playlist of all my ring attack, timetrials and score attack runs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MI6YJUTnVCM&list=PL4SexJ2hPFLA53Rgt1rtcs2H4LBDKBrqH

I'm currently playing on the PAL WiiVC version of this game. I also have a Sega Mega Drive with the original cartridge, but that's not the version I'm playing on.

If you check on www.twitch.tv/pmniac you can see I'm live streamming my attempts.

Edit: Forgot to mention that I'm using a capture card called Elgato Game Capture HD to record my gameplay

Okay but shouldn't virtual Wii games be posted in the Wii category like there are already
https://www.video-games-records.com/sonic-the-hedgehog-2-virtual-console-jeu-j3887.html

So people with genuine machines are not impacted.

I can't even believe that got splitted!
If you're going to spread the same on the site as it was multiple different games for each console, then it's just ridiculous. The game's the same, it works the same for every platform that said, it only kills competition and it makes it harder to really know which is the best record.

Just look at the official speedrun leaderboard: https://imgur.com/a/STFjV4n

I just noticed there were already some Virtual Wii in the Wii platform

I've never played Sonic nor WiiVC so I can't say if they altered something for the WiiVC (and later on for all those 'Mini' devices coming out).
Always difficult to really know they didn't alter the speed, difficulty, added levels, bonus stages or so as an example. But then again, if they just used the same 'ROM', it should be the same.

So fine for me. As long as people don't use save states or cheats, VGR should add ALL WiiVC then to these game platforms (as discussed in some other threats).

But I can imagine it's much easier playing with a modern controller than with a genuine MD/GEN controller. Well, that's my personal opinion.

Virtual Console releases are basically the same game played on a new console.
I can tell you I don't use save states myself, I'm live streamming all my Sonic scores, so you can confirm ;)

Since we're on this topic, there's a time that I'd like to point out because it's impossible!

https://www.video-games-records.com/sonic-the-hedgehog-best-time-final-zone-record-r26763.html

Niconoe's time is impossible to do, the best in that stage is 1min 12sec.
The issue is that, that stage's timer stops when the screen fades out, and it's impossible to pause the game to take a picture while it's fading out. What happened there is that Niconoe's time kept going after he unpaused so that's not his final time, therefore it should be removed! I can't tell if that's a 1:12 or a 1:13, but it might be one of those.

I'll need the help of an admin on that ^
I tried to contact him, but never got a reply from his side

And since the versions of this game are the same, they should not be spread on the site, but they should be merged into the original one!

This should be deleted and 3DS be added as platform to this game.
Scores from this game should be moved to respective charts in the original and PC, PS4, Switch, One should be added as platforms.
Scores from here should be moved to the original, and add 360 as platform.

If there's a player with scores on current different boards, the best one is moved. The other boards then can be deleted.

What caused this mistake on VGR is that people who don't know that the games are the same, instead of asking to add a platform to the existing game, they request the same game with a different platform.

@PMniac: The problem is that you played in the Wii VC, and it doesn't exist yet for this game.

You own both original and Wii VC versions, so please, confirm us (again) if there is savestates with the Wii VC:
- If there is savestates, we can't group them, and your scores should be moved.
Even if you said you didn't used savestates, the possibility exist for you at any time, but also for others. Things can't be confusing, and we have no way to trust people.
- If not, then it's OK, but you need to ask to add the Wii button to the MEGD+MEGDC buttons.

For 3DS version, it's sure that it allows savestates, so we can't merge with the original.
For PS4/PC version, it allows savestates and rewind, so we can't merge it.
For 360 version, I don't know. First reasons why it was splitted should also be respected, but we can discuss again.

For niconoe's time, I will check this in September, so let this topic opened.
Unfortunately, niconoe is not frequently connected on VGR.

@GTi: What I can say about MD/GEN games is that they are the same in the Classic/"Mini" devices, that's why they were grouped. But I also own them in PS3 and PS4 compilations, where there is savestates for PS3, and savestates+rewinds for PS4. This details are important because they totally change the way to obtain highscores or best times.
After, for speed, it's difficult to say but I don't think there is differences.

I have no problem WiiVC or other stuff is posted under the same genuine platform. Save states are also possible on genuine machines. On any machine nowadays.
It's a matter of trust when working just with picture proof and if not, video/Twitch URL should be posted.
I hope one day this site will allow that you can enter this or at least add a comment below/next to your score.
And maybe like on CS that you need to indicate on which platform it is played, so if there are issues later on, admins can easily split scores/platform.

Most importantly , have fun in playing.

No my scores shouldn't be posted there, because that's a complete different game.
That's Sonic2 and I'm playing Sonic1.

WiiVC does not have Save State feature, I've already said this like 99999 times.

Yes, I have a Mega Drive, and the only game I have for it, is this Sonic game, but I don't use it, because I can just play on my Wii. My Mega Drive is boxed on my closet.

Darkoverlord scores are from a different game (Sonic2) we can deal with that later, after this Sonic1 situation is complete.

Ok I, understand why you split this in PS4 and 3DS, but WiiVC doesn't have Save State.
The only Nintendo console that has it is WiiU and 3DS, and possibly Switch, but I'm not sure on Switch.

So Wii could be added as a platform to this game.

@GTi
I've talked to magicbart and he said we will be able to link video proofs to our records with links from YouTube or Twitch without needing to upload the video to VGR.

@PMniac:

zephyraz :

@PMniac: you're right on some points, sorry for my mistakes, I will correct them and update my message when I can.
I updated it, sorry again if I confused Sonic 1 and Sonic 2.

So, now, because there is no savestates in the Wii VC, you can keep your records as now.
But you didn't act nicely for 2 things  :
- you shouldn't post in the MEGD+MEGDC version, if you didn't play with these systems
- if you know that there is no differences with the Wii VC, you should advert VGR with a Modification/Suggestion, in order to add the Wii button to the others.
You said you don't use the original game in Megadrive, but did you already take time to really compare the game versions ?
For example, can you do (or did you tried to do) 1 same platinum record, among your actual 11, with the original game ?
Don't worry, I'm sure you are not the only one to act like this, but at one point you need to take care about the competition, which should be fair for everybody.

@GTi: You seemed to underestimate the "power" of savestates.
Savestates allows you to stop and save your action at any time (almost any 1/10 of second), and restart again at this precise point.
For speed or precise scores, this is less useful.
But for collecting stuffs, or when difficult zones appears between  two periods of calm, you can save your position and start again before any difficulty, and without make again the previous obstacles.
And everything is worse with rewinds, it really decreases the game difficulties.
Of course, I would like adding comments and details with my posted scores, and the possibility of link them to external videos (if VGR stays limited for that to 250 ko).
I told and repeat this regularly since 5 years, it can be a nice evolution.

All these problems are important to consider, if we want to offer a fair competition, with most people in the same and legit category.

I'm sorry Zephyraz after my incorrect way of proceeded, I'll do things differently next time! :)
All the glitches that I have done are also possible to do on Mega Drive!

I've done and I still keep doing as I improve my times and scores. If there was a difference between consoles, trust me, Speedrun.com would be the first place to split things.

About Save States, that should be on the rules of the site where it's strictly forbidden, because there's no competition on that. It's basically cheating the game. The biggest problem is that you can't tell if someone used save states with a picture proof.

About Sonic2, you can move Darkoverlod's score there to this one and add Wii as a console, since the situation is the same as sonic1, there's no need to have WiiVC separated.

After that, both situations of Sonic1 and Sonic2 will be completely solved.

I agree with you, I will now open a Discussion-Modification/Suggestion topic, in order to open the discussion with others.
Because grouping original games with Wii can be confusing for many people (and newcomers), and because of Zimer's existing scores on Wii also, we need to have a global agreement on this.
Maybe it will be better to wait for the VGR n°7 site version, then it will be easier to add comments on games, system/pads used, specific rules, ...
